What is Dermatology?
There are many branches of science that deal with the wellness of human beings. One such field of science is dermatology which deals with the external areas of the human body, more specifically with skin related ailments and issues.
A doctor who treats such patients and has specialization in said field is called a dermatologist. This field of medicine has become more and more popular over the years. These doctors treat all kinds of issues related to skin as it is an external organ of the human body which is exposed to all kinds of diseases and issues. In addition to skin, a dermatologist also deals with other external parts of the human body such as hair, eyelids, lips, nails and follicles. A dermatologist not only deals with the diagnosing and treatment of skin ailments and conditions but also helps in preventing issues related to skin and visible areas of the body. The skin is considered an external shell of a human body which stops and prevents bacteria and germs from invading the human body.
A dermatologist has a vast field of conditions and ailments that fall under their area of expertise. The patients suffering from these conditions could be as young as infants to adults over the age of 100. According to a recent study, there are approximately 3,000 known conditions that fall under a dermatologist’s field of work. However, the most common of these conditions are between 20 to 30 which contribute to about 80% of the common issues reported to dermatologists worldwide on a daily basis.
These issues are different based on many factors including geographical and weather conditions as they are vastly different in certain parts of the world.
